PUNE: The newly-appointed Director of the city-based Films and Television Institute of India, Prem Matiani on Wednesday said his focus would be to provide best training to students.

pune: the newly-appointed director of the city-based films and television institute of india (ftii), prem matiani on wednesday said his focus would be to provide best training to students. matiani, former director of song and drama division of government of india, who took charge on tuesday, told pti here that his priority is to provide best training environment to the students.

matiani replaces l k upadhyaya, the head of national films archives of india, who was given additional charge of the institute on april 14. "the students, who are joining the institute are highly qualified and have very high expectations from the institute. they have put their careers at stake because one who is looking for career in films is not looking for any security. they know very well that their career is very uncertain", he said. "hence my focus will be to provide the best training. i have met the students and faculty members and am trying to understand their needs and expectations", he said. asked whether he would revamp the course structure of the institute as the new curriculam introduced by the then director dr mohan agashe had triggered 45-day strike, matiani said "i have just taken over. i will be able to comment on this only after thoroughly studying the curriculam". agashe had submitted his resignation on march 4.
