Neetu Chandra on creating safe, inclusive workspace in the Bhojpuri film industry; here’s what she says
It’s been 13 years that Neetu Chandra has been missing from the big screen Bollywood releases. Her last Hindi film was Kucch Luv Jaisaa released in 2011. Later she did Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. In fact, she was also seen in international projects and turned producer with Bhojpuri films.
Ask Neetu about her Bollywood comeback and she tells BT, “As an actor, I thrive on exploring diverse avenues of storytelling and transcending language barriers. Bollywood has been instrumental in establishing my global recognition as a versatile performer. Acting is not just my passion but profession, so stay tuned for some exciting announcements.” In terms of Hindi projects, the actress was seen with Randeep Hooda in Operation Friday (2023) on Zee5. Her upcoming project includes a Tamil film with Anurag Kashyap called One 2 One.
Under her banner, Neetu has produced films like Deswa, Mithila Makhaan and her upcoming Kariyatthi. The actor who’s worked down south, in the wake of the #MeToo movement in Malayalam film industry, shares that she wants to create safe work culture through her production house.
She tells us, “As a female producer from Bihar, I welcome the #MeToo movement’s ripple effect in regional cinema. In Bhojpuri film industry, I prioritise creating a safe, inclusive workspace. To prevent harassment, I ensure clear communication of zero-tolerance policy, mandatory workshops on sensitivity and respect, designated grievance redressal system, strict background checks for crew and cast and on-set counselors for support. My production house is committed to empowering women, fostering equality, and protecting talent. A safe environment fuels creativity, and I'm dedicated to leading by example.”
