Mamta Mohandas is in Bangalore shooting with Nagarjuna for King. Before this, shes done Yamadonga with Junior NTR and Chintakayala Ravi with Venkatesh. How did she manage to bag roles opposite so many superstars? I guess it just happened, she says. Probably my role opposite Junior NTR was different from the stereotypes for heroines and that made people sit up and take notice. On the sets of King, she talks about working with Nagarjuna.
Hes very cool, she says, adding, He doesnt have any hang-ups despite being a top hero. In fact, we talk about music and exchange music CDs. How about the other superstars shes acted with? Venkatesh is an introvert off-screen and NTR is dedicated, she says.
Mamta will be sharing screen space with Trisha in King. So, whats it like working with heroines who have established themselves in the industry? Ive known Trisha since my first film. Usually when we meet, we dont talk shop. We discuss other things, mostly about clothes and the places we travel to. Its a misconception that two heroines are always rivals, she explains. She adds that shes not in the numbers game at the moment. Right now Im not in a position to compete with Trisha; shes five to six years senior to me. But a few years from now, I do wish to see myself there and Im working towards it, she says. While being busy in Tollywood, Mamta has also finished shooting for a Tamil film, Guru En Aalu, opposite Madhavan. Im a big fan of Madhavan and I also wanted to keep myself active in the Tamil industry, she says. Guru En Aalu is a remake of the old Hindi film, Yes Boss. Whats her take on remakes? We have to look at what audiences want, she says. They want to be entertained, to laugh a bit and then forget about the movie. Its been a while since we saw Madhavan doing comedy. And though its a remake, hes brought his own touch to the role. With Vivek and Abbas also in the film, its a laugh riot, she says.Apart from acting, Mamta is also a talented singer, having lent her voice to heroines like Nayanthara, Ileana and Yana Gupta. Now that shes busy with her acting. Has singing taken a back seat? Its my ultimate passion. Except for Chintakayala Ravi, Ive sung for all my Telugu movies. When I feel really low, music is what puts me back on track, she concludes.
