Nag Ashwin opens up on his Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD

Nag Ashwin's highly anticipated project of 2024, "Kalki 2898 AD," is set to be a unique epic that brings together mythology, science fiction, and dystopia. Boasting a stellar cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film is produced by C Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies, featuring music by Santhosh Narayanan. The director, Nag Ashwin, recently shared insights into the futuristic world of "Kalki" during IIT Bombay’s Tech Fest ’23, confirming that the storyline remains grounded on Earth without an interplanetary angle.


When inquired about the rationale behind naming the central character and the film "Kalki," Nag Ashwin explained that it draws inspiration from Kalki, the tenth and purported final incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu. He said, "It is something connected to our present and past. That’s what the story is.”
Exploring the amalgamation of mythology into a dystopian science fiction storyline, Ashwin conveyed his enthusiasm, characterizing the process as intriguing and enjoyable. He said, “It’s interesting and a lot of fun to put together. About Ramayana and Mahabharata, we constantly say how the weapons mentioned in them were so powerful and how they were derived from some force of nature. They were described very well. If you read them, they all feel like technology. So, what I have done is mixed that with what we understand as modern weapons. It’s fun and interesting. ”
