Nag Ashwin confirms ‘Kalki 2’ shoot begins in December, promises more screen time for Prabhas

Following the massive success of Kalki 2898 AD, director Nag Ashwin has shared a significant update on the highly anticipated sequel. The Telugu sci-fi mythological blockbuster, which released in June 2024, featured Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles and grossed over Rs 1,180 crore worldwide. With fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter, Ashwin revealed that Kalki 2 will begin filming in December 2025.

During a recent media interaction ahead of the re-release of his debut film Yevade Subramanyam, Nag Ashwin addressed concerns regarding Prabhas’s limited screen presence in Kalki 2898 AD. He explained that the first installment focused on world-building and the backstories of Sumati (played by Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan), laying the foundation for the sequel’s deeper exploration of Karna, portrayed by Prabhas.

“The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters,” Ashwin confirmed, reassuring fans that the beloved star will take a more prominent role in the upcoming film.

In Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas portrayed Bhairava, a rugged bounty hunter from the dystopian city of Kasi. Driven by self-interest and survival, Bhairava undertook dangerous missions with his AI companion, Bujji. While the first film introduced audiences to the post-apocalyptic world and its complex characters, the sequel promises to delve deeper into Bhairava’s transformation and his connection with Ashwatthama.

The announcement of Kalki 2 has intensified excitement among fans, especially with the promise of a stronger focus on Prabhas’s character. With the sequel set to expand on the epic narrative and deliver more action-packed sequences, expectations are high for Nag Ashwin’s next chapter in the Kalki saga.
