‘My story needed fresh faces’
Shashi Ranjan (TOI Photo)After an intense film like Dobara you have chosen to make a comedy?
I was working on a script based on relationships for my next film after Dobara. But one day, when I was sitting with a few friends over drinks, one of them suggested why dont you make a whacky film just like the way you are in real life. At that moment, we all laughed it off but later in the night, suddenly I said to myself why not? Anyway, comedies are working at the box office, today.

That, undoubtedly, was a big plus weighing in favour of a rip-roaring comedy and thats how Dhoom Dadakka came into being.
Making a movie with youngsters is a risky proposition?
Making a movie itself is a risky proposition... period! Only recently, you saw a star-studded film of a top-notch banner not even mustering a good opening at the turnstiles. So lets face it risk is inherent in film making! And as far as newcomers are concerned, my story needed these fresh faces. In any case, as the scenario goes today, we only have six to eight genuine stars around and so many films are being made. So, apart from them, all the rest are there because those six to eight top stars are just not available and the resultant void is filled by them. So what is wrong with newcomers?
How are you coping with Friday jitters?
I will be lying if I say that I am not nervous. I am hoping and praying that the film does well, if for nothing else then for the fact that there are far too many people who have a lot at stake vis--vis this film.
How difficult it is for a new filmmaker to make a movie with so many big production houses around?
I feel that for a talented film maker this is the best period to prove his mettle. Today, you really have a chance to make the kind of film you want to make. Money is not that big an issue these days as there are any number of corporate houses ready to back a good script.
Since you are an integral part of television, would you consider making a movie with TV stars?
Most certainly, yes! Some of the people in the TV industry are extremely talented and given a chance, they would prove to be great cinema actors, too. For instance, my experience with Shama Sikander, a TV star basically, has been fabulous. Not only has she performed well in the movie, but looks very hot, too!
