An In-Conversation session at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa brought together the iconic cricketer Muthiah Muralitharan and actor Madhur Mittal, who portrays Murali in the upcoming biopic "A Legendary 800 - Against All Odds."
Sharing his remarkable story, Muralitharan reflected on his childhood in war-torn Sri Lanka, stating, "Cricket was my solace during those tumultuous times." He reminisced about dreams that never included representing his school, let alone his country. Discussing his biopic, Muralitharan said, "It's not about glorification; it's about truth."
Addressing the 'chucking controversy' in Australia in 1995, Muralitharan revealed it was a deliberate attempt to put him down. He said, “It was a heartbreak, but I didn't give up and continued with active support from my fellow teammates and the cricket board.” Opening up about his worst cricketing memory - the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan - Murali shared the challenges he faced.
He is the only bowler to take 800 Test wickets and more than 530 One Day International (ODI) wickets. Muralitharan was a key player in the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

Director Sripathy M revealed that the film aims to capture the seismic events and struggles that shaped Muralitharan's extraordinary life. “The film portrays the essence of a legend whose journey was as dramatic off the field as it was on,” he said.
Madhur Mittal, portraying Murali, described the film as more than a sports drama, stating, “It is a human drama and the resilience of a great sportsperson, stronger than fiction.” Reflecting on his acting journey, Madhurr said it was exciting and an honor to play the cricketing legend.
