On an evening that was chosen to celebrate music and dance, Nehru Stadium witnessed the distribution of the Tamil Music Awards. The musical extravaganza was attended by high-profile celebrities, including giants from the Tamil film industry. The old and the new combined gracefully at the event which sparked off with the honouring of legends such as MS Viswanathan, Ramamurthy and Vikku Vinayakram.
Moving on from there, youngsters took stage and kept the audience on their feet.
The success of the awards ceremony lay in the fact that it introduced a variety of innovative themes such as the Best Rising Star and the Best Song with a Social Message. Amidst the mundane presenting of awards, sizzling dances by Meghna Naidu, Snigdha and Simran kept the audience glued to the stage.Actors Vijay and Prabhu Deva were cheered by the crowd to the hilt. Nayanthara, who made a late entry, was a huge hit with the audience. The much-hyped debut of Sruthi Haasan on stage was average. Venturing into unfamiliar territory (singing numbers such as Kasu Mela... from Kaadhala Kaadhala and Yaar Yaar Sivam... from Anbe Sivam), Sruthi's attempt to cater to both class and mass music audiences was not as successful as she would have liked it to be. Though there was glitz and glamour, the original purpose of the ceremony to honour musicians wasnt lost. While the event celebrated the people behind the tunes, it also showcased the celebrities who take it to the audience on screen.
