Monica Dogra, who was last seen in Dhobi Ghat, recently signed up to play the lead role opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh in Bejoy Nambiar’s directorial David. “I am not at a liberty to talk about it,” she says. What we have heard is that the actor will also be working with
Tabu in the film.“Tabu is a fantastic actor and I have often looked at her work with great admiration.”
What is interesting to note is that Bejoy, who held auditions with Monica for the role nearly nine months ago, is a fan of the actor.
“Bejoy and I immediately connected, as I see him as an independent warrior of sorts. He had heard my music and conveyed that he was a fan. After that, I auditioned for his film’s role and was on the board soon.”
Talking about Shaitan and Bejoy as a filmmaker, Monica says, “I really felt that
Shaitan pushed the envelope. Bejoy has a great potential in terms of style and individuality in film-making.”
While many would think that David is Monica’s second film after Dhobi Ghat, it is actually her third. Monica wrapped up the shoot of her second film Fireflies in Bangkok recently. The star cast of the film includes
Rahul Khanna, Arjun Mathir and
Shivani Ghai in the film.
“After Dhobi Ghat, I was often asked when I’d do another film. I always said that I was going to hold on until the right projects came along. I was being choosy. There are certain films that are just not me, and it’s best that I do not lend myself to something that I don’t believe in completely.”
Acting just happens to be a part of what Monica does. Music takes up most of her time and she can be found in the studio, recording, when she is not touring with her band.
