Mona Singh on her Kohrra 2 role; says I was finding it a little difficult to break away from the character
Mona Singh has stepped into the gritty world of Kohrra 2 as Sub-Inspector Dhanwant Kaur, a police officer whose presence adds a new emotional gravity to the series. Marking her first full-fledged cop role, Singh admits the intensity of the character often stayed with her long after the cameras stopped rolling. “When the mood of the show is so heavy, switching off isn’t easy. I’ve learned acting on the go, and I was finding it a little difficult to break away from the character because it is so intense and multi-layered. I tend to overthink.”
She explains that the home scenes were particularly hard to detach from. “All the scenes at home, the atmosphere, everything, was extremely intense and not easy to deal with. Especially in the first couple of days, I was carrying that heaviness with me.”
It was during a brief break in the shoot that the team consciously decided to unwind. “We all decided to chill and just switch off. I remember saying that it feels criminal to switch off. And the directors were like, ‘No, no, it’s very important. Just break away, cut the cord. We’re not shooting today — just relax. Tomorrow, when we shoot, we’ll see a different side.’”
To ground herself, she turned to music and spirituality. “I was listening to very mellow music and a lot of Gurbani paath,” she says. “Shooting in Punjab, in real locations, added so much. In the morning, there would be paath playing in the background — it was beautiful and very surreal. It really helped me.”
Joining an already successful series in its second season could be daunting, but Singh says she didn’t feel the pressure. “I don’t try to fit in. I just try to be myself. There’s no need to blend in, you stand out by being authentic and honest.”Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
