Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Mirzya' is a musical written by
Gulzar and 'musicalised' by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The team went all out to bring the legendary love story of Mirza and Sahiban to life. The music, first heard in the teaser of the film some weeks ago, followed by two full-length songs released online, has caught the fancy of the audience. A lot of effort has gone into creating the music of this epic love story.
Apart from Daler Mehndi, many singers were roped in for various tracks. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy recorded 300 hours of music, which has largely made it to the film. The launch of the soundtrack was attended by debutants
Harshvardhan Kapoor and
Saiyami Kher. At the event, Gulzar recited the poem he had penned and it was followed by live performances. Rakeysh says, 'The story, written by Gulzar bhai, is based on the love story of Mirza and Sahiban, and the way it would have played out in today's day and age. The idea was to musically narrate it. Hence, the score of the film is extremely important.' 'Mirzya', produced by Cinestaan Film Company and ROMP Pictures, releases October 7.
