'Meri band baj rakhi thi,' says Farah Khan as she recalls how she was trashed when Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif starrer 'Tees Maar Khan' released
Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, may not have earned blockbuster status at the time of its release, but over the years, the film has found a second life. Despite its underwhelming box office performance, it gradually gained appreciation and is now widely regarded as a cult classic, cementing its place as a pop culture staple. Farah herself has frequently acknowledged this shift in perception.
The subject resurfaced recently when Farah appeared in a conversation with YouTuber and ‘The Traitor’ fame Purav Jha. During their chat, Farah teasingly asked him, “Jab Main Hoon Na release hui thi, tab kitne saal ka tha? Shayad 3 saal?” (When ‘Main Hoon Na’ was released, how old were you? Maybe three years old?). Purav agreed, replying, “Haan, itna hi hoga” (Yes, I must have been around that age). When Farah followed up by asking whether he had seen the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, he instantly said, “Haan, ma’am! Kitni baar” (Yes, ma’am! So many times).
The exchange became even more amusing when Farah asked if he had watched ‘Tees Maar Khan’. Purav’s enthusiastic response, “Arey yaar, kya movie hai!” (Oh man, what a movie!) left the filmmaker amused. Reacting humorously, Farah said, “Highlight hai yaar. Arey yaar, tum log kahan the jab picture release hui thi? Meri band baja ke rakh di thi sabne.” (It’s a highlight, man. Where were you all when the film released? Everyone had completely trashed me back then.)
Earlier this year, Farah also reflected on the film’s aftermath and the industry’s reaction to its failure. In her YouTube vlog, shot at producer Jackky Bhagnani and his wife, actor Rakul Preet Singh’s home, she remarked, “Tees Maar Khan is a legend with Gen Z. They don’t care for my other films. They think that (Tees Maar Khan) is the one.” She further added, “I remember during Tees Maar Khan’s release, there was literally a celebration in the film industry. People whom I have worked with were like, ‘Abhi aayi na line par.’ In our industry, more than being happy for your success, people are happy for other people’s failure.”
