Jahan Bloch didn’t have it easy. Being Mehul Kumar’s daughter didn’t mean she walked into his film Krantiveer — The Revolution, without a screen test. Nor the fact that she had assisted her star-director father earlier in Bollywood. But Mehul had a problem on hand when casting for the sequel to his successful film Krantiveer. Says the director, “In the original, Nana Patekar was the main lead.
I was searching for a male as an heir to his ideology. That’s when Jahan asked me to change the lead into a daughter. I agreed, but I was not sure whether I would take her or some other girl.”
Jahan watched the original film a number of times too and then gave her screen test. But there was one hitch. “There were scenes where I am supposed to abuse and with my dad as the director, I just couldn’t do it. So he told me to look at him as the director and not as dad,” says Jahan. And that worked! “It’s not easy to work with your father, especially when it is your debut film,” she smiles. Jahan plays an aggressive TV journalist who has zero tolerance for weaknesses and corruption. “It’s not a serious film, it has lots of entertainment, it’s about four youngsters with their dreams, their friendship, and how they come together to fight the rot in society. Samir Aftab, Aditya Singh Rajput, Harsh Rajput and I had fun shooting and people will have fun watching the film,” promises Jahan.
Krantiveer — The Revolution, produced by White City Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., will release tomorrow. The film doesn’t take off from where the original film ended. It begins after 18 years. The link between the two films is Farida Jalal, who was mother to Nana and is grandmother to Jahan.
