Masaba Gupta: I really believe that cluttered homes lead to cluttered lives

For Masaba Gupta, home isn’t just where the heart is—it’s where the creativity flows, the redecorating never stops, and the Pinterest boards come to life. But it took a global pandemic, a wedding, and a baby for her to truly reimagine the way she lived in her space.

“I never even thought about what my surroundings are,” Masaba confessed at the launch of Revamp by Urban Company. The lockdown forced her to take a long, hard look at her space. And that’s when things started changing. “We suddenly looked around and realised: this is the space. This is our world. And it affects your professional life. I really believe cluttered homes lead to cluttered lives. If your home is neat and organised, it reflects in your work too.”


Masaba’s home journey began the very day she got married to Satyadeep Mishra. “It was also the day we moved into our new house,” she recalls. “It was a bare shell. Only our bedroom was ready. Everything else was just open.” The couple took over the upper floor for themselves, while the kitchen and other areas sit downstairs. “It’s quiet, and has this lovely separation from the buzz of the city,” she says.

Calling herself a serial decorator and a redecorator, the Masaba Masaba actress confesses, “I keep thinking, ‘My curtains can be different, this wall can be different, this plant can be different.’ My husband is sick of me! He’s like, ‘You’re always moving stuff around.’ Friends dropping in every few months often find a completely different layout. I’m that person,” she grins and continues saying, "But living in Mumbai comes with its own set of challenges. “You have to be cautious about what you buy. I’m someone who sees something and immediately says, ‘Yes'. But then —where are you going to put it? So, I offload it to my mom’s house… or anyone else’s!"



Motherhood, though, brought in an entirely new wave of transformation. “Ever since I became a mom, I’ve actually decluttered. We’re in this era of overconsumption—there’s just too much coming our way. I think it’s really nice to just declutter. My focus now is to see items that are baby-safe, long-lasting, and functional. I look for things that my daughter can use too."
