Mandira Bedi talks about suffering postpartum depression; reveals she didn't feel 'connected' to her newborn son

Mandira Bedi shared her experience of becoming a mother for the first time and discussed her battles with postpartum depression. She candidly talked about the challenges she faced during this period, offering insights into her emotional struggles and the journey to overcoming them.

Mandira revealed that her initial reaction to her newborn was far from affectionate, describing her feelings as a mix of shock and reluctance about the changes motherhood brought. She also shared her struggle with postpartum depression, which she hadn't been warned about beforehand. The emotional turmoil was intense, leaving her feeling disconnected from her baby, often breaking down in tears at home. Her doctors explained that this was due to hormonal imbalances. Throughout this period, her husband provided unwavering support, helping her navigate through the difficult phase.



The actress mentioned gaining 22 kgs during her pregnancy and feeling disconnected from her body post-childbirth. She expressed how the inability to exercise and the new responsibility of caring for her baby contributed to her sense of loss of independence. She also linked her depression to negative feelings about her body image.




Forty days after giving birth, Mandira began exercising, which aided her emotional recovery. She shared that forming a bond with her son Veer transformed her perspective, leading her to realize that motherhood was the most rewarding experience she had ever had.



After the birth of their son Veer in 2011, Mandira Bedi and her husband Raj Kaushal adopted their daughter Tara in 2020. Tragically, Raj passed away in 2021.
