CHENNAI: The Kerala Parliamentary Affairs Minister M M Hassan on Sunday expressed concern over Malayalam cinema facing financial and cultural crisis.
"Gone are the days of brilliant story lines and evergreen songs that reflected the culture of Kerala," he said, addressing a function organised by the Malayala Chalachithra parishad here.
He called upon the producers not to view making of a film solely as a commercial venture but as an effort to reflect the culture of the state.
He regretted that the Malayalam cinema had of late lost its link with its literature which he said was once one of the strong point of many a highly successful movie of yesteryears.
Hassan who is also in charge of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) said that the sub committee appointed by the state government was seriously looking into the various problems being faced by the industry.
He said the crisis being faced by the industry was multifold and could be overcome only through joint efforts by all concerned including the government and the industry.
The function was organised to felicitate P V Gangadharan, the new chairman of KSFDC and distribute Parishad''s educational scholarships.
