Making movies and babies
arjun rampal is really excited these days, for various reasons. there's moksha, which was released on friday. secondly and most importantly, he is going to be a daddy. he and wife mehr jessia (who is due in january) have moved bag and baggage to the leafy and quiet environs of dadar parsi colony, to be near mehr's parents. will it be pink or blue booties for the lil' one? the proud papa and mamma-to-be, (along with the modelling fraternity, given the genes) are eagerly waiting for this baby to arrive. talking about his latest film, he says, i'm very sentimental about moksha because it's the first film i signed. i feel it's good irrespec-tive about the fate. he has a strong point to make about the rampant piracy going on in bollywood, which cuts tremendously into profits. he adds, i'm very disappointed with the pirated vcds being out three weeks before the release. this killed ashok mehta, the producer of moksha, financially. it devastated a man mentally who wanted to make films with a passion. it upsets me even more because moksha won two national awards. yet, the government has done nothing to fight this piracy. result? the industry will be wiped out eventually. the hong kong film industry would produce 600 films every year. but because of uncontrolled piracy they've been reduced to making 50 films every year. god forbid, we seem to be heading in the same direction. we'll have to come out with severe laws, for eg. cable operators screening pirated films will have to pay damage equivalent to the entire budget of the film. the law has to be strict to yield good results. well said, arjun.
