Director Ravi Jadhav had started work on the script of '

Banjo

' even before he made successful Marathi films like Time Pass and Balak Palak. And it was during the making of the latter, which he produced and helmed, that he discussed with Riteish Deshmukh the subject of street musicians. Impressed with the idea, the actor convinced his filmmaker friend to make it in Hindi. And when Ravi narrated it to producer Krishika Lulla, she felt the subject had universal appeal and should reach out to a wider audience. Together, the director and the producer fine-tuned the script and set out to make the film with Riteish and Nargis Fakhri.

On his part, Ravi adds, 'The idea behind this film is to make the effort of getting these largely ignored street musicians some respect they deserve. And this will happen only when people get to know about them. I'm glad Krishika understood the importance of the subject and decided to produce the movie in Hindi, which has a universal appeal.'
