'Main Atal Hoon' teaser: Pankaj Tripathi’s depiction raises eyebrows for deviation from Atal Bihari Vajpayee's style

The much-anticipated teaser of "Main Atal Hoon" showcasing Pankaj Tripathi as former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was unveiled today, prompting discussions about the portrayal's divergence from Vajpayee's distinctive oration style.

In the teaser, Atal, portrayed by Pankaj, engages in a conversation with LK Advani regarding their political future, yet the rendition lacks the familiar mannerisms of the late PM, known for his eloquence and unique speaking manner.

Directed by Ravi Jadhav, acclaimed for National Award-winning Marathi films, "Main Atal Hoon" introduces Pankaj Tripathi as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, yet further details about the film's ensemble cast are yet to be disclosed. Jadhav, known for his directorial ventures such as "Natarang," "Balgandharva," and "Balak Palak," recently helmed the Sushmita Sen-led JioCinema series, "Taali."

Pankaj Tripathi, who recently clinched a National Film Award for his performance in "Mimi" and tasted box office success with "OMG 2," dedicated substantial time to prepare for the role. He disclosed a rigorous regimen during the shoot, consuming only self-cooked khichdi for 60 days to maintain authenticity in his portrayal.

Expressing his reverence for the former PM, Pankaj lauded the opportunity to embody such a multifaceted persona on screen. He remarked, "It's my honour to portray such a humane politician on screen. He was not just a politician but so much more."

"Main Atal Hoon" is slated for release on January 19, 2024, coinciding with the 18th Lok Sabha Elections in India, presenting a narrative unveiling the multifaceted persona of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
