After his successful stage production, 'The Last Salute', based on Muntadhar Al Zaidi — a journo who shot to fame after throwing a shoe at ex US president George Bush — Mahesh Bhatt is all set to stage his latest, 'Trial of Error'. Imran Zahid, who played Al Zaidi in
The Last Salute, will play the protagonist in the new play. “I essay the role of a journalist, Rehan, who is investigating the atrocities one particular community in India is being subjected to.
But he gets embroiled in the vicious cycle. Trial of Error captures his struggle to prove his innocence,” says Imran.
Bhatt, who has picked up social issues in films like
Saaransh and
Zakhm, had ventured into theatre with the issue of Al Zaidi after his son, Rahul Bhatt, got sucked into controversies post 26/11. “Trial of Error looks at the harrassment that youth from a particular community face in India whenever any act of terror takes place. Many youngsters are nabbed, humiliated and put behind bars for no fault of theirs which scars them for a lifetime,” says Bhatt.
Produced by Sandiip Kapoor and penned by Rajesh Kumar, the play will be directed by National Award-winning playwright Waryam Mast. The first show is expected to be staged around end March in Delhi.
