Mahesh Bhatt reveals he was defamed as a phone director: 'That's how Vikram Bhatt was shaped to be a director'
Director-producer Mahesh Bhatt recently talked about his reputation for directing movies over the phone. Bhatt said that he started this procedure to protect producers from financial losses.
During a conversation with Radio Nasha, Mahesh shared, "Yes, I would direct films on phone. I had signed so many films that when they all would fall in the same schedule, I wouldn’t cancel them. I would tell my assistant to arrange and shoot the scene, while I go to another film to take a shot. That was the phone phase. I learned this from my father (Nanabhai Bhatt) would also be busy and he was also reputed to be a phone director.”
The filmmaker also shared the reason why he adopted this practice and revealed there was a time when the dates of producers would clash and one would say one producer to cancel the shoot and he would suffer a loss. So, it was an internal adjustment kind of thing. He further added, “Apne kisi ki majboori samajh ke usko bachane ke liye kaam kiya par aap he ki badnaami ban gayi. That’s how Vikram Bhatt was shaped to be a director.”
After directing his 1999 movie ‘Kartoos’, Mahesh Bhatt took an indefinite hiatus. He made a comeback with his directorial film ‘Sadak 2’ in 2020, which starred Jisshu Sengupta, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and his daughter Alia Bhatt among others. The movie was a sequel to the 1991 hit film, 'Sadak'.
