Mahesh Bhatt recalls Amitabh Bachchan’s advice to him when Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s daughter Raha was born: ‘Our emotions are the same’

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s daughter Raha was born in November 2022. Since then, she’s been the centre of the universe for them. Not just for Ranbir and Alia, but even for their families. In a recent interview, Mahesh Bhatt has opened up on being a grandfather. He spoke about his bond with his granddaughter Raha and revealed he told Alia that her best creation is not her movies but Raha.

The film-maker said during a chat with TV9 Bharatvarsh, “Paying heed to what women have to say has been ingrained in me since childhood. I was raised by a single mother, my father wasn’t around.” Talking about his bonding with Raha, he added, “I hadn’t even wrapped my head around Alia’s astounding success, and she went and got married and child. I tell her, ‘Your best creation is not your cinema work, it’s Raha’. She is a gift from nature, who has arrived her via Alia. I look into her eyes and I tell Ranbir, ‘You and Alia combined don’t have the magnificence of this child’. She has vitality and an energy. Every generation is a superior generation to the previous generation. She’s very smart, she’s very bright, she’s very inte
lligent. I keep observing her. We have a unique relationship.”

He recalled an advice from Amitabh Bachchan and said, “I’m not as close to her as Soni. They spend more time together. I once asked Mr Bachchan when he realised that he’s a grandfather, and he said, ‘It takes time. When you’re a father, you’re busy working. You can’t give your children enough time, and before you know it, they’re grown up. When you become a grandparent, it takes you a while to realise that life is giving you another chance. Then, you become one of the millions of other men who are grandfathers’. We are no different from the regular man who becomes a grandfather; our emotions are the same.”
