Gulaab Gang team on a high after court verdict
Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Juhi Chawla are jubilant after the Delhi High Court reversed its order on Thursday, and allowed their film Gulaab Gang to keep its date with the audience. The film’s producer, Anubhav Sinha, who came to the Mumbai premiere straight from Delhi, said, “I felt terrible, but now, there is a sense of fulfillment. As a producer, when you are not able to take your labour of love to the audience, it feels like you have failed your team.

But I had to release the film somehow.”
Movie review: Gulaab Gang
On March 5, the court had stayed the release of the film till May 8 after Sampat Pal, the real-life leader of Gulabi Gang, filed a plea saying the filmmakers had not taken her permission before going ahead. Pal had argued that the characters in the film closely resemble her and her team of women activists. Says debutant director Soumik Sen, “Gulaab Gang is a work of fiction; it’s not a biopic. The protagonist, Rajjo, is a combination of various inspiring qualities I have seen in women over a period of time.”
Adds Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of Sahara Movie Studios, which has co-produced the movie, “We were always confident that we had not infringed on anyone’s personal space or questioned any one’s reputation. We are glad that the film finally released on March 7.”
