Madhur Bhandarkar enjoys watching Rajinikanth starrers at a popular single screen in Mumbai; shares experiences

Madhur Bhandarkar, as a filmmaker is known to make movies based on reality. However, when it comes to watching movies for entertainment, he prefers sitting back and having a dose of larger-than-life cinema. The maker of films like Chandni Bar, Traffic Signal and Fashion says that to get that kind of a thrill, he heads to Mumbai’s Aurora theater in Matunga and watch Rajinikanth starrers. . It is always crowded when they play his films. I prefer to watch first day’s 12 to 3 pm show. It’s since the last 4-5 years that I have been going there. There are no sub-titles also, and I don’t understand Tamil. I just like to see the whole euphoria over there. There’s madness in the theater. During certain scenes they even throw coins.” Taking a cue from the craziness there, Madhur went berserk when he watched the superstar’s Robot at a multiplex. “I went there with my wife and family. I lost all my inhibitions and also whistled and clapped. I get excited watching Rajinikanth’s entry in his films. I don’t have the sensibility to make over the top films, but as a filmmaker I enjoy that kind of cinema. Such movies let you escape the moment and take you to another world, which is a welcome change,” he says.
