Lezim dance, few sequences to be edited out of Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna's Chhaava

Vicky Kaushal is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited historical drama, 'Chhaava', alongside Rashmika Mandanna. The film has been in the spotlight for its compelling theme, and Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant had requested the makers to conduct a screening for “experts” before its theatrical release, as it portrays Vicky in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.


Later, director Laxman Utekar called upon Raj Thackeray to meet him and discuss the same. The ruling Shiv Sena had objected to some Yesubai-Sambhaji scene, along with a Lezim dance sequence. Utekar, after the meeting has promised to delete the scene and this was confirmed by Ameya Khopkar, spokesperson of MNS.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, 'Chhaava' is a historical drama centred on the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Earlier, Minister Samant took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to commend the filmmakers for choosing such a significant subject but expressed concerns about the film’s sensitivity. He emphasised the importance of maintaining historical accuracy and ensuring due respect for the Maratha king.

"It is a matter of joy that a Hindi film based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the protector of religion and freedom, is being made. Such efforts are necessary to make the world understand the history of Chhatrapati. However, many have expressed concerns about some objectionable scenes in this film. Our position is that this film should not be released without first being shown to experts and knowledgeable individuals. Anything that harms the honour of the Maharaj will not be tolerated," he stated.

He further added, "Our position is that the producers and directors of the film should take immediate action in this regard and remove anything objectionable. A further decision will be made after watching the film; otherwise, the release of this film will not be permitted!"


'Chhaava' is a period drama that brings to life the heroic story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal. The film chronicles the valiant Maratha ruler's illustrious reign, beginning with his coronation in 1681. Scheduled for a theatrical release, the movie is set to hit the screens on February 14.
