And soon, Leena got a major break with the movie Shabd.
Dressed in a casual salwar suit, Leena was very uncomfortable posing for a photograph, “I think I am good behind the camera and not in front of it,” said she with a smile.
There are reports that in her next movie she is directing none other than Amitabh Bachchan, is that true? “At this moment I am busy working on the screenplay and, frankly speaking, I would not like to reveal any further details, except that the movie explores the student-professor relationship.”
So, did she always want to be a director? “I never seriously thought that I would get into direction. It just happened all of a sudden. Basically, I am a storyteller first. It was like that for my debut film too.

I had a story to tell, and Pritish Nandy offered me a stellar star cast.” So, was Sanjay Dutt’s character in Shabd inspired by her own life? “I am not swayed to such limits, but yes, I feel that somewhere I do get involved with my stories, and they, in turn, reflect me,” says Leena. What was it like directing Aishwarya Bachchan? “Well, I think Ash has her brand of sensuality which is dignified and tasteful.”
So, what is Leena doing these days? “Reading books,” comes the reply. And, what is her present state of mind? “Fresh, I am at ease and relaxed.”
