This bit of information should be available to the ones who are available," laughs Nagesh Kukunoor. When we question him about rumours of him tying the knot with long time partner of his production firm, Elahe Haptullah."We were linked together a decade ago and this bit of gossip surfaced again this October.
I think we should be extremely psychotic to hide our ‘marriage’ for 10 years!," says Nagesh. But he has found his comfort zone with actor Shreyas Talpade with whom he’s working in Bombay to Bangkok, his third film in a row.
"Shreyas is very dedicated and hungry for growth," he says. It also helps that Nagesh has the power of Subhas Ghai firmly behind him. "Yes, it does. With Iqbal, it was far more critical. We were pleasantly surprised with Iqbal’s success and it was scary as well," says Nagesh. Scary? "I make films for entertainment. I don’t strive to influence people. When a lot of kids found inspiration from Iqbal, I was a little unnerved by it all," says a candid Nagesh. So are his scripts incident or idea driven? "My sources come from books and films. I had written Bombay to Bangkok’s script after Dor. I wanted a comedy and worked on this idea of an Indian guy in love with a white girl. But as it was explored by many filmmakers recently, I changed the girl to a Thai one," reveals Nagesh. But isn’t the character a Thai masseur girl very stereotyped? "I agree. But Bollywood hasn’t depicted a lot of that. Thai women are some of the strongest women I have ever met, they deal with taboo subjects like sex in such a natural, nice way," says Nagesh. So what next? "Ummm, marriage is certainly not on a priority listing. Travel, yes. I would like to direct more movies, act in only some very small parts," says Nagesh.
