Krystle D’Souza: Dance numbers today are not just about looking glamorous
Krystle D’Souza is soaking in the feedback for her dance number Shararat in the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, a song that has quickly captured the audience’s attention with its vibrant performance. Reflecting on the response, she says, “The feedback has truly been wonderful. My DMs are full of reels, dance covers, and even screenshots of people’s favourite moments. When something you enjoy shooting also connects with the audience, it feels special and reminds you why we do what we do. Having Aditya Dhar place his trust in me for this song means a great deal, and I was able to show a side of myself that audiences may not have seen before. Some opportunities just arrive at exactly the right time.”
Sharing the frame with Bigg Boss 17 fame Ayesha Khan was a collaborative and energising experience for Krystle, one that she describes as supportive rather than competitive. She explains, “Ayesha and I were aligned from the start, which made the process smooth. We respected each other’s space and supported each other when necessary. When both performers are confident in what they bring to the screen, sharing the spotlight enhances the performance rather than complicating it.”
She adds, “I am completely at ease sharing the spotlight. I believe there is space for everyone to shine, and when you focus on your own performance, outside comparisons fade away. I have never viewed another actress on set as competition, especially in a creative space like a song. Comparisons are natural, but you can choose not to take them personally.”
Krystle also notes that dance numbers today offer more than just glamour, giving performers a platform to showcase their craft and artistry. She says, “The way these songs are shot today is completely different, with thought, styling, choreography, and storytelling all coming together. It is not just about looking glamorous; it is about performing and creating a mood. Dancers and performers are respected much more now, which makes taking on such songs even more rewarding. I have always loved dancing, and I am happy to see this space evolve.”
While she would have enjoyed sharing the screen with Ranveer Singh, Krystle values the individuality that Shararat allows her. “Ranveer’s energy is unmatched, and it would have been exciting to share the screen with him. He brings boundless energy to everything he does, and I often imagine how the vibe would have shifted with him in the frame; it would definitely have been electric. At the same time, I am very happy with how Shararat turned out. The song has its own identity, and I loved owning that space,” she signs off.

She adds, “For me, this song opened a creative avenue to explore a different side of myself. Dance numbers today allow you to act, emote, and truly perform, and I enjoyed that. Every project teaches you something, and this one added a fresh dimension to my journey. This song gave me visibility, and I am grateful for that. I am excited to see what comes next because I feel this is just the beginning of bigger things. It is definitely a meaningful step ahead.” She adds, “I am completely at ease sharing the spotlight. I believe there is space for everyone to shine, and when you focus on your own performance, outside comparisons fade away.
