Kirti Kulhari has been getting wonderful opportunities when it comes to the digital space. One of her recent work includes her playing a character which makes her feel proud today when she looks back. It’s a challenging role she essayed in her last web show. What made it interesting was the fact that it had a streak of a homosexual angle to it.
In times where the subject is being explored in conventional Bollywood space too, Kirti is happy that she got to play it on the online medium.
She shares, “It was a special role for me. It is the first time I represented the community. I was game right from the word go. Yes, but for this I had to do a lot of research. I spoke with the people from the homosexual community and learnt about their challenges. I also spoke to a psychologist. It was a very emotional journey. I really wondered how claustrophobic it must be to hide from yourself and be in denial. Imagine living your whole life not being accepted by your most loved people in the world like parents.”
Ask her if this is one character that left her moved completely and she shares, “This character was definitely most complex. There were a lot of layers to it. But I usually get moved by all the characters that I play.”
The actress is happy that she played such a character in a long storytelling format instead of a two-and-a-half hour Bollywood film. She signs off saying, “Since it was a series we got the opportunity to elaborate the idea. It was not on the surface. It wasn’t thrown in your face.”
