Kiran Rao recently shared how a memorable line from the film 'Laapataa Ladies' played a crucial role in deciding to direct the film. She said she felt like a 'Laapataa Lady' herself at a time when she couldn't find the right project for her second film after 13 years of making her directorial debut with 'Dhobi Ghat'. It was one line from 'Laapataa Ladies,' spoken by Aamir Khan that really stirred something in her, prompting reflection on the story.
During a round table discussion with RJ Rohini, Kiran Rao revealed how Aamir, who was one of the jury members for a screenwriting competition, once mentioned a line to her and it really struck a chord with her.
That was a line so powerful that Kiran felt a desire to direct the movie, and when Aamir offered her the chance to do it later, she was fortunate enough to take it up. Rao said she had spent several years in a state of uncertainty and felt like a 'Laapataa Lady' herself, not knowing what her next creative step would be. The moment she heard the line, it was as if everything fell into place, and she felt very grateful for the way things turned out.
'Laapataa Ladies' was one of the most talked-about films of 2024, marking a return to direction for Kiran. With fresh faces like Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Pratibha Ranta, the film enjoyed widespread acclaim along with renowned actors Ravi Kishan and Chhaya Kadam.
Further, Kiran Rao ensured her fans that her next project would not take as long. She stated that she is currently busy writing her next film and has several ideas in the pipeline. Though she teased that she was "cooking" a lot of things, she left her audience eagerly awaiting what was to come next.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is going to feature in the upcoming movie 'Sitaare Zameen Par', with Genelia D'Souza and Darsheel Safary, which is going to hit the theaters reportedly in 2025.
