Further, Salman is to play Anthony Gonsalvez (played by Amitabh Bachchan), Arbaaz will play Amar (played by Vinod Khanna) and Sohail will be Akbar (played by Rishi Kapoor).
When contacted Dhawan confirmed the news. "I am all set to make Amar Akbar Anthony where Salman will play Anthony. I can't divulge any more details, but Ramesh Taurani of ‘Tips’ has agreed to produce the film. I will be talking in on the floors as soon as my ongoing film Partner is completed."

So, where does that leave his other venture Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi which he wanted to make with the three Deols? "I am not making the film anymore. How many films can I make? I was more charged about Amar Akbar Anthony. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi is a Kishore Kumar-Madhubala kind of film, whereas I like to venture into different genres. I will be making a completely different film on the lines of a Shola Aur Shabnam
with ‘Percept Pictures’. Let's see how it shapes up,” said Dhawan.
When asked about his son Rohit's intentions to get into direction, he said, "Rohit has just returned from New York and has learnt filmmaking from the New York University. He then assisted Farhan Akhtar, but when Partner started, he requested to be excused and is now working with me."

Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony is a 'lost and found' story about three brothers who are separated while they are kids and reunite years later. As each is raised by different people from different religions, the eldest brother (Amar) is a Hindu police officer, the youngest (Akbar) a Muslim tailor/singer while the middle son (Anthony) is a Christian hooligan.
Years later, they coincidentally find themselves donating blood to a woman (who happens to be their mother) in a hospital. The three also fall in love with their respective partners but when one of the girlfriends is kidnapped, they all get involved to trace her. In due course, the separated family is reunited resulting in a happy ending.
