Kelly Dorjee: H'wood ho!

A Hollywood film is being made on Yama, and Kelly Dorjee’s a part of it
Kelly Dorjee: H'wood ho!
Model and actor Kalden Dorjee, better known as Kelly Dorjee, has been a busy traveller these past six months.
And he has good reason for it – Kelly might soon be signing a Hollywood movie. “I am going to be doing a movie later this year and I have signed a letter for it. This is a movie by a company in Los Angeles; it’s a Hollywood film. It is a Buddhism-based subject on Yama.

The subject is very interesting and they want to come down and shoot in Kathmandu. This is going to be my first Hollywood project and has opened up a few more doors for me already. I don’t know who else they’re planning to sign for the movie, but I am sure this will be a very interesting subject for everyone,” says Kelly.
But his Hollywood connection doesn’t end there. “I have spoken to Kiefer Sutherland’s agent and have discussed how to go about things, but only on a very social level. I also have a few friends who are actors in LA. One of my very dearest and oldest friends is Laila Nabulsi, who produced Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas. She was the first person to encourage me to become a model. She comes and spends some time with me on my birthday. And, you know, it is good to have friends who, no matter how far they are or if they’ve met you after ages, still remain the same. She’s that kind of a person. But not once did I tell her to get me into Hollywood. I believe that whatever is, will remain, and whatever isn’t, that just can’t be,” he says. “A couple of years ago, when Anjelica Huston came here, I took her out because she is friends with both Laila and me. Angelica wanted me to be part of a vampire film that she was planning to do. But a little later, Angelica’s husband passed away and the project got shelved.”
Kelly’s list of projects isn’t quite restricted to Hollywood, though. “For the past six months, I’ve been travelling to places like Malaysia, Thailand and to south India. I do a lot of cinema these days. I have done a lot of Tamil and Telegu movies. Tamil is a very difficult language, but Telegu I can manage a bit now. I am really enjoying this experience. The last movie I did was Golimaar, by Puri Jagannath. I am soon going to start a movie with Mahesh Babu and then later with NTR Jr,” he says.
He’s started experimenting with his roles and likes the scripts that are being offered to him, especially down South. “There is a lot of experimentation in the characters I choose now. Even if I am playing a villain in a south Indian movie, there is a great difference between one negative character and another.”
Apart from movies, biking is very close to Kelly’s heart. “I love riding bikes. In Bhutan, we have started riding for charity. Instead of just riding, we travel to various places and we work. The last ride that we did was to southern Bhutan, where we distributed wheelchairs and stuff like that. And we don’t do this randomly. We tied up beforehand with a women’s association in Bhutan. We ride about 10 hours a day, so I get to do what I love – bike around and help people. The next big ride is in July and I am so looking forward to it!” he says.

Recently, Kelly was quoted as saying in an interview, ‘Lara Dutta took my friend Dino Morea away from me.’ Kelly is saddened by the way his words were twisted. “I don’t want to hurt anybody. Everybody is a wonderful person in his or her own right. I wish everyone well all the time. And I have always said this. I work very hard, no matter what I do. I might not be that famous, but I definitely don’t want to be written about for the wrong reasons. I don’t go around talking rubbish just so that I get written about. In the past, I have always been silent about my personal life. Once in a while, I opened up because the pressure was too much. And, in this particular case, I insist that the media gets over it because I am completely over it. I understand that controversies sell, but it’s not fair to twist someone’s words. I have no bad feelings for anyone and I wish everyone well, always,” he says.
