Kavita Tripathi: ‘Shatranj’ is a realistic film and I have an interesting role in it

Bollywood actress Kavita Tripathi, who received critical acclaim for her role in 'The Hundred Bucks', will be seen in a thriller titled 'Shatranj' next. Produced by Anand Prakash, Mrinalini Singh and Fahim Rustam Qureshi, the film is touted to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller, and also stars Hiten Tejwani, Hemant Padey, Ashutosh Kaushik, Pankaj Berry and Shahwar Ali.

Kavita says, “Today, there is a role for every talented actor, irrespective of his/ her age. I am glad that filmmakers are thinking of interesting concepts. The new-gen filmmakers focus on content, quality and cast actors, who genuinely suit the part. To a great extent, that’s also because the audience has evolved, owing to the exposure to desi and international platforms.”

She adds, “‘Shatranj’ is an interesting film with a new concept and I am looking forward to working with the talented filmmaker Dushyant Pratap Singh. I have worked with him earlier in 'The Hundred Bucks' and there, too, I had a meaty role. In this film, the concept is based on how today’s system uses people and exploits them. This is a realistic film and I have an interesting role in it.”

Kavita admits that she is inspired by actresses like Vidya Balan, Tabu and Taapsee Pannu, who take up author-backed roles. She says, “It is high time that women take up challenging roles instead of playing just glamour dolls. I am happy that early I am getting to do interesting roles early on in my career.”
