Rajkummar Rao and
Bhumi Pednekar's 'Badhaai Do' was screened at the Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival on Thursday. While talking to ETimes, the director of the festival,
Sridhar Rangayan, revealed what the community feels about the movie and also praised the makers of the film.
The festival director was asked to comment on how he felt about the film being screened at the event.
He said, "'Badhaai Do' is one of the most beautiful, sensitive and heartwarming films. It looks at the LGBT community - both gay and lesbian portrayals."
He added, "The writers have done so much research and brought across a very nuanced portrayal. Of course, it is humour but the whole thing is so real along with the idea of a family around them. For me, family acceptance comes first and then social acceptance. This particular film portrays family acceptance and that's a huge thing."
Talking about the LGBTQ community, he said, "The community has embraced the film totally warm-heartedly and today we are happy to have Rajkummar Rao, Harshavardhan Kulkarni and actress
Chum Darang. It's a beautiful experience that we are showcasing such a huge film at our festival. Thanks to Junglee Pictures for doing that. I am really excited."
He concluded by saying, "The other big-ticket film is 'Sheer Qurma' starring Shabana Azmi,
Divya Dutta and
Swara Bhasker, which we are going to screen on Saturday."
