Karva Chauth ka chand sabse late aata hai: Tigmanshu
Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, who usually finds it difficult to find producers for his hatke films, laments lack of innovative ideas in the film industry.
It wasn't just the success of Paan Singh Tomar or the lacklustre performance of Bullet Raja at the box office that was discussed at a workshop held at the Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) recently .
1x1 polls
The chief guest, Tigmanshu Dhulia, also talked about why he worked in a TV show (Yudh), how some films these days are just the recreation of existing films, and reminisced about his good old NSD days. The occasion also kickstarted the first annual international film festival of VIPS, which saw a special screening of a small film on Dhulia, which was made by the students.
I WANTED MONEY, THEREFORE, I DID TV
Dhulia was recently seen in Yudh where he got the opportunity to share the screen with Amitabh Bachchan. He said, “I did that series because I was getting an opportunity to work with Amitabh Bachchan. Also, I wanted money . Aur maine bahut paise liye hain iss show mein kaam karne ke liye."
DIDN'T EVEN READ THE SCRIPT OF GANGS OF WASSEYPUR
Dhulia's role as Ramadhir Singh in Gangs Of Wasseypur was appreciated by the au dience. His dialogue, Beta, tumse na ho payega instantly became popular. At the workshop, he said, “During my final year at NSD (National School of Drama), I wanted to pursue direction, but I was not given direction because there were not enough students for that course. So, I was asked to take up acting. NSD waalon ne direction lene hi nahi diya tha. Meine 20 saal se acting nahi ki thi, but hua yeh ki I was under no pressure when
Anurag Kashyap asked me to work in his movie. I didn't even read the script, I didn't know what age I would be playing, I didn't know the magnitude of my role. I was working with friends, so I was under no pressure. Agar mein acting achchi nahi bhi karta toh log yahi bolte na ki meri acting achchi nahi hai. Meri rozi roti pe laat toh nahi padti, after all I am a writer and a director.“
HAR FILM EK JAISI BAN RAHI HAI
While talking about the lack of innovation in our films, he said, “Everyone is making what has already been done. Har film ek jaisi hi ban rahi hai. Jab se filmein ijaad hui hain tab se hum log filmon ki hi filmein bana rahe hain. Karva Chauth ka jo scene hota hai filmon mein, usmein ek khoobsurat sa chand aata hai. Karva Chauth ka chand kabhi khoobsurat nahi hota. Ek toh sabse late aata hai, biwi ko headache ho raha hota hai, lekin filmon mein bada khoobsurat dikhate hain. Interestingly , no one has ever tried to change that.“
I DON'T USUALLY GET PRODUCERS FOR MY FILMS
Dhulia said that people have started asking him if he is only going to make films like Paan Singh Tomar or Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster? He said, “Ab toh log mere upar yeh allegations lagane lage hain ki ab tum wahi filmein banaoge kya? I don't get producers for my films easily. The only film for which I got a producer without any pain was Bullett Raja. Aur wahi nahi chali.“
DETAILING OF CHARACTERS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME
Tigmanshu can't make films where the characters are not detailed as they have to have specific details like name, caste, place, and depth. He said, “I just want to say that the detailing of my characters is very strong and there fore, they stand out. Meri filmon mein character ka jo surname hota hai, usse uski jaat ka pata chalta hai, woh ka han ka hai, woh kya khana khata hai.
Such detailing doesn't happen in our other Hindi films. There's some Oberoi family , but where are they from? Nobody knows. Helicopter se utarte hain, Armani ka suit pehente hain, bas itna hi pata rehta hai. When I am talking to my actor, I tell him, `Look your name is xyz. Tum Tripathi ho, tum Azamgarh ke brahmin ho.Main wahi cinema bana raha hoon jaisa mere drama school waalon ne mujhe sikhaya hai.“
99% SMALL CITY ASPIRANTS ARE MEDIOCRE
Talking about the actors from small cities, the director said, “ Acting aspirants from small cities, like Allahabad, Bhopal, Jhansi and other places, come to me for work. I ask them to go back. They feel bad, some even abuse me and send me heartbroken messages, and others threaten me. I understand their angst, but at the same time, it is also a fact that I can't give a job to everyone.Ab saal mein ek hi picture toh banate hain, usmein kaise le sakte hain aise hi kisi ko. Also, most of these actors are not actually talented and 99% of them are mediocre. Only 1% is talented. And it is difficult for a mediocre actor to find a work in Mumbai."
