Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were childhood friends before falling in love, kept news of their wedding 'under wraps': 'Whatever is destined...'
Sunjay Kapur, who passed away owing to a cardiac arrest while playing polo in England on June 12, 2025, has left behind Rs 30,000 crore fortune. His children with Karisma Kapoor have now gone to the Delhi High Court to claim their share. Meanwhile, an old interview of Karisma has gone viral where the actress is talking about why they kept their wedding private.
In an old conversation with Subhash K Jha, Karisma spoke about how her childhood friendship with Sunjay slowly turned into love. At first, they kept things 'under wraps' just to make sure they both knew what they wanted. Their families had been close for years—Karisma and Sunjay practically grew up together, and their moms had been friends since their teens. Fun fact: Karisma’s mom even shot one of her films, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, at Sunjay’s family home! Over the years, the families have stayed just as close.
The actress further added that all the kids from both families grew up together, and she was especially close to Sunjay’s sisters. They even went to school together, and their bond was so strong that it almost felt like their love was destined to lead to marriage.
She also shared that although they grew up and spent some time apart, their childhood friendship eventually turned into a love story years later.
Karisma said that many years later, after they had both grown up and moved on—he with his business and she with her film career—their bond brought them back together. Her parents had always hoped she would settle down, and she finally found the right person for her.
Meanwhile, Samaira and Kiaan have approached the Delhi High Court to claim their share of his estate. They say their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, tried to forge the will to take control of assets worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. The court will now decide how the estate is divided and what happens to Sunjay Kapur’s legacy at Sona Comstar.
Sunjay and Karisma married in 2003 and had two children—daughter Samaira in 2005 and son Kiaan in 2011. They filed for divorce in 2014, which was finalized in 2016.
