Karan Singh Tyagi reveals Ananya Panday's performance in 'Gehraiyaan' helped in 'Kesari Chapter 2' casting

Director Karan Singh Tyagi is receiving a lot of praise for his film 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh'. The film stars Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan, who are being appreciated for their performances. Ananya Panday has also surprised many viewers with her impressive performance, as a young lawyer helping CS Shankar, win a legal battle against the British after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. While she has won praise for taking on the role very different from the ones she has played thus far, she has also faced some amount of criticism and trolling.

Director responds to Ananya Panday’s trolls
In an interview with News18 Showsha, director Tyagi reacted to the trolling his lead actress has faced. He said he prefers to focus on the positive response. “The audiences have given her character so much love that I would like to look at the positive. I would like to look at the love that she’s getting."

On social media hate
The director acknowledged that negativity on social media has become more intense than ever. He said that people these days are quick to judge and often react based on clickbait headlines. While he believes that criticism and differing opinions are important for growth, he also pointed out that a lot of the hate online feels unnecessary and sometimes even toxic. He called it one of the downsides of social media and said it's something everyone has to learn to live with.

Why was Ananya cast in 'Kesari Chapter 2'
Director Tyagi shared that Ananya was chosen for 'Kesari Chapter 2' back in 2022. He shared it was her performance in 'Gehraiyaan' that impressed him and helped him decide to offer her the role of Dilreet Gill. He praised Ananya’s dedication, saying she worked very hard for the role. She took dialect training for over a year and studied how female lawyers behave and speak. He also mentioned that they visited the Bombay High Court, where Ananya observed a female lawyer in action to better understand her character.


Ananya's preparation for her role
The director praised Ananya for her extensive preparation for the role. He revealed that she read a lot of literature on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, including a book filled with poems about the tragedy, which became her guiding reference. He mentioned that Ananya carried the book with her on set. Karan also admired how Ananya portrayed her character, Dilreet Gill, blending vulnerability with determination. He said she brought out both qualities beautifully in her performance.
