Karan Johar to direct Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’

Karan Johar is back to doing what he does best, calling the shots! On Ranveer Singh’s birthday, the filmmaker has announced that he will be directing the actor and Alia Bhatt in an endearing romantic saga which is all about love and family. Revealing details about his directorial, Karan Johar shared on Twitter, “Thrilled to get behind the lens with my favourite people in front of it! Presenting Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, headlined by none other than Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan & Sumit Roy.Yes, it's a love story, but no - it's not your regular love story. Rocky and Rani are going to redefine your usual love stories to take you on a journey!" Karan Johar further revealed that Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi will be seen essaying pivotal roles in this film.

Ranveer Singh also shared a post revealing the film's details and wrote, "A special announcement on my special day! Presenting - Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani along with my dazzling supernova Alia Bhatt, directed by the genre himself, kaleidoscopic visionary Karan Johar, & written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan & Sumit Roy."
Previously, Karan Johar had amped up the excitement about his directorial venture with a teaser announcing his return. “This is the beginning of a new journey & my way back home - all at once. It's time to go back to my favourite place, it's time to create some eternal love stories from behind the lens. A very special story, truly immersed in the roots of love and family,” the filmmaker had shared. Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh have previously shared the frame in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Gully Boy’ and their charming chemistry won hearts. Recently, Alia Bhatt began shooting for her own production venture, ‘Darlings’. The film is being directed by Jasmeet K Reen and also stars Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles. While Ranveer Singh eagerly awaiting the release of Rohit Shetty directed ’83.
It is after a break of five years that Karan Johar is returning to the director’s chair. His last directorial was 2015 release ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, which featured Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan as the leads. Interestingly, in February 2020, KJo had announced that he would call the shots for ‘Takht’, a period drama featuring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. However, there has been no further update on this ambitious movie by KJo.
