Speaking on comedian Zakir Khan's new show, Aapka Apna Zakir, Karan Johar shared both humorous and emotional anecdotes from his life, including a period when his father's career as a producer was on a downward spiral.

During the conversation, the filmmaker recalled how the industry’s attitude towards his father shifted after a series of box office failures. He expressed the sadness he felt watching Yash Johar struggle for respect within an industry that had once embraced him. He stated that despite being invited to film premieres, the family was often given ‘substandard seats’.

He noted that his father, sensing the disrespect, would often refrain from attending these events but would encourage Karan to go instead. KJo also shared his reflections on the fears he harbors as a filmmaker, rooted in his father’s experiences. He mentioned that he never felt overly confident about the commercial success of his films, always fearing potential losses, a sentiment he attributes to being the son of a producer who endured significant challenges. He recounted how his father took on substantial debt to produce his first film, ‘Dostana’ which was successful. However, subsequent failures cast a shadow over Yash Johar’s career. KJo also expressed that ‘Failure is a bitter pill to swallow’.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan Johar’s recent outings ‘Kill’ and ‘Bad Newz’ made a lot of buzz amongst the audience and box office.
