Karan Johar pokes fun at nepo baby-outsider debate, calls himself 'nepo papa'; says ‘it’s a lovely union’; Kartik Aaryan reacts
Karan Johar never shies away from a hot topic, and at the trailer launch of Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s upcoming film ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’, he addressed the nepo baby versus outsider debate in his own witty way. What could have been an awkward moment turned into a light-hearted and memorable exchange, setting the mood for the entire event.
The much-awaited trailer of ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ dropped today and instantly promised a colourful, fun-filled romantic ride. While the trailer grabbed attention for its glossy visuals and sharp banter, it was Karan Johar’s opening remarks on stage that truly stole the spotlight.
The audience broke into laughter as Karan openly acknowledged Ananya Panday being labelled a ‘nepo baby’ and Kartik Aaryan often being seen as an ‘outsider.’
Ananya chose to keep things simple and focused on the film rather than the labels around it. She replied, “I’m thinking a bit of a thought after the amount you have said and I’d just like to leave it at the fact that I’m very excited and the trailer’s a lot of fun and I just want people to watch it and enjoy.”
He further said,“My thoughts are the same that we both actually completed the film and it’s finally releasing and we really discussed this out that this one won’t be released, we could have named it Dostana 2, if it’s a long title. But my thoughts are that I’m really, happy to be back in this genre and after Chandu Champion, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and all these films, now I’m back in this genre after a while and I’m really looking forward to everybody’s reaction.”
Kartik plays Ray, a fun-loving LA-based NRI, while Ananya is seen as Rumi, a best-selling author. Their lives cross paths during a luxury getaway when circumstances force them to share a yacht. What begins with irritation soon turns into witty banter, funny moments and an undeniable spark.
While the trailer keeps the tone light and playful, it also hints at deeper issues. Once Ray and Rumi return to their real lives, their different views on marriage, commitment and the future begin to clash. The trailer suggests that the film will explore whether a holiday romance can survive real-world expectations.
