As KJo walked on stage to introduce the lead cast, he chose humour over hesitation. Referring directly to the long-running insider–outsider discussion, the filmmaker said, “It’s a great coming together, insiders, insiders, outsiders, it’s a lovely union, nepo papa, nepo baby, outsider, it’s a great coming together, please let’s celebrate this melange on stage, we truly are eclectic in that way.”
The audience broke into laughter as Karan openly acknowledged Ananya Panday being labelled a ‘nepo baby’ and Kartik Aaryan often being seen as an ‘outsider.’

Karan then turned to Ananya Panday and asked her about her thoughts at such an important moment in her career, “Ananya, your very first thoughts, it’s such an important film for you, what are you thinking right now?”
Ananya chose to keep things simple and focused on the film rather than the labels around it. She replied, “I’m thinking a bit of a thought after the amount you have said and I’d just like to leave it at the fact that I’m very excited and the trailer’s a lot of fun and I just want people to watch it and enjoy.”
Kartik Aaryan turns outsider tag into humour
When Karan Johar addressed Kartik Aaryan, the actor used humour to react to the ongoing debate, instantly winning over the audience. He replied, “What was the question? I got lost in outsider nepotism. I got lost in outsider nepotism.”
He further said,“My thoughts are the same that we both actually completed the film and it’s finally releasing and we really discussed this out that this one won’t be released, we could have named it Dostana 2, if it’s a long title. But my thoughts are that I’m really, happy to be back in this genre and after Chandu Champion, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and all these films, now I’m back in this genre after a while and I’m really looking forward to everybody’s reaction.”

Kartik also spoke about the pressure that comes with romantic films, calling it a difficult genre to crack. He added, “Because this is a very difficult genre to crack and there’s immense pressure whenever such films are released. I hope you guys like it, you guys love it and I hope that you all go and watch it in theatres.”
