Karan Johar jokes about his flashy 50th birthday outfit: 'I looked like a disco ball...'
Karan Johar is known not only for his hit movies but also for his stylish and unique fashion sense. Whether he is going to an event or traveling through the airport, he always manages to grab attention with his outfits. Recently, he talked about one of his looks from his 50th birthday party, a shiny green sequin jacket. In an interview, KJo admitted that he now regrets wearing it and said he really doesn’t know what he was thinking at that time.
During his chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Karan was candid as he took on a series of fun, rapid-fire questions about his fashion choices over the years. When quizzed about “A look of yours that you wish you hadn’t worn?” the filmmaker didn’t hesitate before pointing to his 50th birthday outfit. Laughing at himself, he explained that the sparkling ensemble made him look like a “disco ball” and admitted that he regrets wearing it whenever he comes across the party pictures.
He further said, “For my 50th, I wore this green, shiny sequin Dolce and Gabbana jacket. I swear I looked like a disco ball in that. I regret it now when I see the photos. I’m like, what was I thinking? I’m looking mad. I wanted to wear something shiny, and I think glam was the theme or whatever. I don’t even remember, but I look back, and I’m like I wasn’t pulling and then of course 10,000 other looks that have fallen flat on its face."
In another part of the rapid-fire session, Karan was questioned about the most recent film whose costumes impressed him enough to say ‘nice.’ Without giving it a second thought, he immediately named Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Praising the Black filmmaker, KJo shared his admiration for the visual beauty of Bhansali’s work and the attention to detail in every costume. He said, “Always what Bhansali does. Every movie of his, the costumes are just outstanding. He’s a filmmaker I truly regard as one of the most aesthetic voices."
On the professional front, Karan last helmed ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, which hit theatres in 2023. The filmmaker is reportedly gearing up to return to direction with ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2’, though an official announcement is still awaited.
