In 2013, four directors, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap,
Zoya Akhtar and
Dibakar Banerjee, united to make 'Bombay Talkies', an anthology of four shorts made to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema. Mirror has now learnt that the quartet is returning for another as-yet-untitled project, similar in format but not a sequel to 'Bombay Talkies', which will be produced by
Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua.
"The quartet has begun working on ideas for their respective 30-minute shorts and have zeroed down on a common theme of love and lust after a lot of brainstorming. Zoya is currently in talks with
Bhumi Pednekar and Neil Bhoopalam to play the lead in her short, while others are presently in the deciding theirs," says a source close to the development.
In 'Bombay Talkies', KJo had directed 'Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh', featuring Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem in a love triangle with homosexual overtones. Dibakar's was an adaptation of
Satyajit Ray's short story, 'Patol Babu', 'Film Star' with
Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead while Zoya's 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' revolved around a 12-year-old boy (played by Naman Jain) an ardent fan of Katrina Kaif, who finally gets to perform her popular item number to an appreciative audience. Anurag's was a story of Vijay, played by Vineet Kumar Singh, who travels to Mumbai to fulfil his ailing father's desire of meeting
Amitabh Bachchan and feeding him homemade murabba.
"They will shoot their films at their own time later this year and the anthology should release next year," adds the source.
