A sequel to ‘Queen’ (2014) has long been anticipated, and it now appears to be moving forward. The Kangana Ranaut-led film, which became widely popular for its coming-of-age narrative, is gearing up for production. Reports suggest that Ranaut and filmmaker
Vikas Bahl plan to start filming ‘Queen 2’ by the end of April, marking the return of the beloved character Rani.
Unlike the original, ‘Queen 2’ will retain its core themes of self-discovery and independence rather than directly continuing the earlier storyline. As stated by Mid-Day, reports suggest that, in ‘Queen 2’, Kangana’s Rani will be a city girl unlike the small-town girl in the original. She will be smart, strong, and quirky, but a plot point will send her on a journey of self-discovery. The narrative will follow her journey across multiple cities in India, rather than international destinations.
The sequel is expected to introduce an entirely new supporting cast, with no returning actors from ‘Queen’. Theatre performers are reportedly being considered for key roles. Sharing details about the production, the source added, “The unit will kick off the project in a Mumbai studio, where a set reflecting a North Indian city and another depicting the protagonist’s home will be built.” After completing the Mumbai schedule, the team will travel to other metro cities, aiming to wrap up the shoot within three months.
More about Kangana Ranaut's 'Queen'
‘Queen’ (2014) was originally backed by Phantom Films and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. However, since Phantom Films shut down in 2018, ‘Queen 2’ will now be produced by Vikas Bahl under his own banner, with him also taking on writing responsibilities. Following this project, Kangana Ranaut is expected to move on to ‘Tanu Weds Manu 3’, directed by Aanand L Rai. The actress was last seen in the film 'Emergency', which was released in January 2025. Although the actress received appreciation for her performance, the movie failed to draw audiences to theaters.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
