Kangana Ranaut, who is known for speaking her mind, is currently promoting her next movie Emergency, in which she plays the role of India's former PM Indira Gandhi. What makes Emergency special is that Kangana is not only acting in the movie, but also directing it, making it her first stint as solo director.
Recently, while talking to NBT, Kangana revealed that she had once turned down the offer to do a dance number in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela, that eventually went to Priyanka Chopra. Elaborating on her decision, the Queen actress said, “Aap dekh lijiye mujhe Sanjay Leela Bhansali ne bhi Ram Leela film jo hai usme item number ke liye bulaya. Sab logo ne mujhe bola yeh paagal hai, Bhansali ko mana kar rahi. I said main nahi kar sakti. Chaahe Bhansali bula le chaahe koi bhi, I can’t do item numbers. Artists need to show such integrity. Women ko aap kaise portray karte hain…”
Not only this, Kangana Ranaut recently revealed she had turned down a role in Sanju, the hit film where Ranbir portrayed Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie also featured stars like Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, and Sonam Kapoor.
Kangana did not disclose the specific role she was offered in Sanju, but mentioned that Ranbir personally approached her with the offer. During an interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actress addressed whether it feels awkward to interact with those she has publicly criticized or turned down professionally. She shared that despite rejecting numerous offers from major stars, it hasn’t impacted their professional relationships. For instance, Ranbir had come to her home to request her participation in Sanju, but she chose not to take on the role.
In a recent interview with Raj Shamani, Kangana revealed she had turned down film offers featuring the three Khans, believing the roles for women would be limited. She mentioned rejecting deals worth Rs 10-15 crores due to endorsements of fairness creams, which she finds racist. Kangana clarified that despite her rejections, the Khans have always treated her with kindness, contrasting them with others who have been less respectful.
Kangana has been publicly feuding with director Karan Johar, whom she labeled as the 'flag-bearer of nepotism' on Koffee with Karan. In 2023, she took a veiled swipe at both Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar, accusing them of spreading false stories about her in the media. On Instagram, Kangana criticized what she described as the industry's most gossipy and insecure figures, referring to them as a "Duryodhan and Shakuni" duo who see themselves as the "information and broadcasting ministry of gossip."
