Irrfan Khan

Irrfan Khan was one of the finest actors the Indian film industry has ever had. His sudden demise has left a void in the industry that can never be filled. The ace actor, who hailed from a small village, never imagined that he would be an actor and neither did his family. In an old interview, Irrfan had said that because he comes from a traditional feudal family, there was no question of him becoming an actor.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is a superstar in Bollywood today. He is rightly known as the ‘Perfectionist’ in the industry. While he has won millions of hearts with his films and performances over the years, acting was certainly not what his parents wanted him to do. In fact, they wanted Aamir to pursue engineering. In one of his interviews, the ‘PK’ star had revealed that despite being from a film family, his parents were opposed to him joining Bollywood as they believed it was not a good place to be.

Karisma Kapoor

Although now things have changed for the better in the Kapoor family, there was a time when women of that revered film family were not allowed to act in films. However, despite her father Randhir Kapoor being against it, Karisma Kapoor began her acting career in Bollywood at a young age of 15. Needless to say, she went on to become one of the top actresses of her time. Although she is currently away from the silver screen, her magic lives on.

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat has time and again said in her interviews how she has had to battle patriarchy in her community. Like many others, the actress ran away from home as her parents disapproved of her pursuing acting as a career. Not only this, her father had in fact threatened to disown her if she pursued acting because according to him it would bring shame to their family. However, to mark her protest, Mallika decided to drop his surname.
