‘Jolly LLB 2’ trailer launch: Arshad Warsi says director Shubhash Kapoor fired him from the film, Akshay Kumar calls filmmaker a ‘strict taskmaster’

Back in 2013, Arshad Warsi played the lead in the first ‘Jolly LLB’, but by the second film, Akshay Kumar had taken over that role. People were curious about why Arshad was no longer part of the series until the announcement of the third movie, which features both Akshay and Arshad together. At the trailer launch for ‘Jolly LLB 3’, Arshad opened up about being let go after the first film and pointed to director Subhash Kapoor as the reason.

Strict direction on set

The cast and director, Shubhash Kapoor of 'Jolly LLB 3' was present for the trailer launch of the film in Kanpur. While interacting with the media, the cast was questioned about creative freedom during the shooting of the film. Akshay Kumar went on to explain that the director was very particular about following the script. He said with a laugh, “This man is strict about the written word. He makes sure that we say what he has written. If you go beyond it, you might get fired.” Arshad then chimed in, sharing, “Maine pehli film mein bola, mujhe nikaal dia (I tried to give some inputs in the first film, so he fired me).” The two shared a good laugh over this, with Akshay adding, “Our director is a strict taskmaster.”

When asked about the on-screen rivalry between his character and Arshad’s, Akshay replied, “Kalesh toh nahi (There is no conflict).” He went on to add, “I really enjoyed working with Akshay. I wish that we continue to make more Jollys. There is only one person who has to handle all our mess, and it’s Saurabh Shukla. He deals with our tantrums. We just have our fun. We fought a bit but we also made the film with a lot of love.”

‘Jolly LLB’ series started in 2013, focusing on exposing corruption within the legal system. The 2017 released sequel saw Saurabh Shukla reprising his role, and Akshay Kumar replacing the original lead as the new Jolly.
