Abbas Tyrewala, whose next is “Jhootha Hi Sahi”, has something common with his debut blockbuster “Jaane Tu.... Ya Jaane Na” – both are on ‘gang dynamics’. Despite the similarity, he’s made sure that he creates something different. This film is about friends and their interpersonal relationships just after college as they get their first jobs, while “Jaane Tu...” was about friends in college.“Jhootha Hi Sahi”, presented by Saregama and produced by Apurv Nagpal along with Madhu Mantena (co-producer), shows an eclectic mix of Asians staying in London, a scenario true to the city, where people from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are very thick.
The film also has another USP: John Abraham’s geeky look. Abbas has removed all trimmings of a superstar and has turned him into a nerd. “It wasn’t a conscious decision. We wanted an actor who could play the character of Siddharth – someone who was on the heavier side in his childhood and who stammers in front of girls. I told John that I wasn’t interested in the
John Abraham that we all know,” he says. John, we hear, lost 8-10 kg for the role.
Pakhi (Abbas’ wife) who was the casting director for “Jaane Tu...” and has written this film, also plays the lead. “As a writer and director, we’d have lots of differences. But as an actor, she understood she had to surrender. All my actors were phenomenal and they all surrendered to me,” he signs off.
