Janhvi Kapoor's candid take on working in Malayalam films resurfaces ahead of 'Param Sundari'; Check what she said

In a past media interaction, Janhvi Kapoor was asked if she would follow in her mother Sridevi’s footsteps and work in Malayalam cinema. She replied with humility, “I’ve watched my mom’s Malayalam films — she performed with such ease. I’m not sure if I’m ready to make such choices yet. She worked in almost every Indian language. All I’d like to say is, please never compare me to her.”

From Memories to Param Sundari

Fast forward to 2025 — Janhvi now steps into a role that celebrates her South Indian heritage in 'Param Sundari', her first on-screen collaboration with Sidharth Malhotra. The trailer, released on August 12, introduces Sidharth as Param, a Punjabi boy, and Janhvi as Sundari, a South Indian girl, in a love story that defies borders of geography, language, and culture.


The film begins with light-hearted, filmi references in their playful interactions, but soon the tone shifts when Sundari accuses Param of toying with people’s emotions. The emotional arc unfolds as Param struggles to prove his sincerity.

Talking about her character, Janhvi told India Today, “Sundari is deeply personal to me. Her grace, quiet strength, and love for her roots resonate with my own South Indian heritage. Shooting in Kerala, surrounded by such beauty, I felt an emotional connection to her world that I hope the audience will feel too.”

Sidharth on Revisiting Old-School Romance

Sidharth Malhotra added, “With Param Sundari, I feel like I’m revisiting the kind of romance I grew up loving, but telling it in a way that feels fresh and relatable. Param has that Delhi boy charm, with a love story that makes you cross worlds. We wanted it to look as beautiful as it feels, and Kerala’s magic really made that happen. I hope the audience feels the same warmth and joy we felt while making it.”

Directed by Tushar Jalota, 'Param Sundari' also features Rajeev Khandelwal, Aakash Dahiya, and Manjot Singh in key roles. The film is set to release in theatres on August 29, 2025.
