Janhvi Kapoor reflects on studying acting in LA, says she didn’t learn anything there
Janhvi Kapoor made a name for herself in the industry with her debut film ‘Dhadak,’ and since then there has been no looking back. However, did you know that before entering the film industry, Janhvi Kapoor went to the Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles to study acting? In a recent revelation, the actress confessed that she regrets the very decision.
During an interview with The Week, Janhvi acknowledged that the Hollywood-centric approach of the institute did not align with the Indian cinema format. She lamented missing the opportunity to connect more deeply with her own country, culture, and language during that time. She emphasized that the experience did not contribute significantly to her growth as an actor, stating, she hasn’t learned anything from there.
The actress reflected on the thrill of being in an environment where she wasn't primarily recognized as the daughter of legendary Bollywood figures, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. She cherished the anonymity but wished she had used that time to understand her people and country better.
Janhvi expressed her desire to connect with her roots and regretted not immersing herself more in Indian culture during her time in LA. She regrets not spending much time to know her people and country, as in the end of the day, she is telling the stories of her own people.
Realizing the detachment caused by being away from her cultural roots, Janhvi acknowledged a shift in perspective during the shooting of ‘Dhadak.’ The experience prompted her to recognize the significance of understanding and connecting with the stories, people, and culture she represents in her films. In hindsight, she expressed a wish for a more profound engagement with her homeland, emphasizing the importance of relating to and understanding the nuances of Indian life and storytelling.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Janhvi has an interesting line up. She will be seen in 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari', 'Mr and Mrs Mahi' and 'Devara'.
