‘It’s for viewers’ entertainment’

That’s what singer Kailash Kher says while rubbishing rumours that he is all set to tie the knot this year. But he does agree that Anu Malik, who he didn’t like initially, is a genius and a bindaas aadmi
‘It’s for viewers’ entertainment’
His earthy voice takes his listeners through a wide array of powerful emotions.
In fact, his mesmerising renditions be it Allah ke bande or Maa are known to leave audiences spellbound. Yes, we are talking about Kailash Kher who was recently in town to perform at a function and in an exclusive chat with JT, the lyricist and composer shared his long association with Jaipur.

I am very closely connected with Jaipur. In fact, I am family friends with the royal family of Jaipur since I had taught music to Diya Kumari. When I came here for the first time, I stayed with them, shares Kher.
Wearing an innocent smile the Sufi singer says, Diya used to take music classes from me while we were in Delhi and those were the days when we developed a very warm relation. In fact coming to Jaipur is like coming back to home. He even gets nostalgic while sharing, Of my various performances, in Jaipur the one at Amrudo ka Bagh holds a special place in my heart because it had a very different feeling and a unique ambience.
A master of sufi music Kher, believes the music unifies the self with God. Sufism is all about mystic love. It helps the atma meet the parmatma. It is something that can only be felt and cannot be explained, he says. A singer by accident, Kher moved to Mumbai on the insistence of friends after his business in Delhi flopped. He sang a mix of numbers before Allah ke Bande became a chartbuster, making him a household name and winning him accolades from industry biggies. In fact, even A R Rehman, who was at that point looking for a fresh, earthy voice for his compositions, applauded Kher for his soulful singing. It was Rehmans birthday on the 6th of January and Kher wanted to wish his favourite composer, so he did this through the pages of JT. I wanted to wish him personally but due to my busy schedule, I could not do so. But today I wish him a belated happy birthday, he says.
The man who is busy performing and judging reality shows is at present also working on his next album. All the songs are written and composed by me. The entire album is based on Sufism and it would be released in March, informs Kher. Ask him if he really likes reality shows, and his answer is, The best thing about reality shows is that I dont have to perform in them. Rather I only have to enjoy the performance of young talents and enrich myself by being in the company of great people. In fact, the singer even confesses, Initially, I used to dislike Anu Malik as he speaks a lot. But, now I realise that he is a genius who composes music instantly. He is a bindaas aadmi. And while many would think that Kher is seriously planning to tie the knot this year the singer says, Such things are just part of the show and are meant for viewers entertainment. Right now I dont have any plans of getting married.
